This is one of the busiest Building Departments around. Be patient, Be polite, and take your time. I have worked in San Francisco numerous times over the past 20 years. Even when in conflict, if you are patient and polite it will work out.
Recent visit to this Building Dept: They have moved to 49 Van Ness and tucked into an inset entrance to the building. The new place is HUGE and spacial with plenty of elbow-room for everybody. They use a new text system to direct you from spot to spot so bring your smart-phone. Everybody is behind glass (plastic) to protect all from virus and it seems to be much more efficient. Just check in at the “Help Desk” and let them direct you to the place you need to be . . .
